Our mission is to provide adults in the greater Plymouth area the opportunity to develop and improve the life skills and literacy skills needed to achieve personal growth, to further their education, to seek better employment, and to benefit their overall quality of life.
We offer free classes for adults (age 16+) who are working towards passing the Hi-SET or GED to obtain a high school equivalency diploma.
We also provide tutoring for adults learning English as a second language (ESOL). Our tutors are volunteers from the community who have completed our tutor training program.
Scott shares his experiences in the Literacy Program and his future goal to become a graphic designer.
Mercy talks about coming to the Literacy Program as an English Language Learner
We are located at the Plymouth Public Library where we have classroom space, a technology lab and the resources of the library's resource collections.
We are funded through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA), the Plymouth Public Library Foundation, Massachusetts State Aid, and the generous gifts of corporate and individual donors.
We work with other agencies in the community including community colleges, job training programs and social services.
